What’s your favorite part about working in social media?

To be honest, there’s a lot of things that I could say are my favorite parts about working in social media such as the encouragement of being and showing your authentic self, community building, doing surprise and delights for your audience/fans and the ability to find niche communities. And there’s also a lot of hard things about working in social media, such as navigating angry commenters, having fire drills that could happen at any time of the day or night because social media is 24/7, being a last thought for content and the mental and emotional drain it can put on someone.

But, my absolute favorite part about working in social media is the relationships that can form over any channel. While yes, social media can be overwhelming and can go in negative directions, it also has the power to connect you with people that you would never regularly meet in your day-to-day life. And truly, some of my favorite people I’ve never met IRL (yet 😉) but we talk every week or every day on social media. We support each other, we show up for each other and we’re a part of each others’ communities. I even landed my job with Thulium through a relationship I made on X (Twitter 😉).

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Empathetic, creative and courageous.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you?

I will sing when I talk, just like Jess from New Girl 😉

What’s something that you’ve learned in your career that’s inspired you to keep moving forward?

There are four big themes that I’ve learned in my career from people that inspired me, challenged me and even people that I learned how not to be:

• Ask for feedback — whether you want to hear it or that, getting feedback on your work or your skill is the only way you really know how you’re doing, as well as where you need to grow to get to where you want to be.
• Ask for what you want — if you don’t ask for what you want you’ll end up sitting around waiting for something to happen that could never happen or happen in a time frame that’s too slow for you. 
• Go for your passions — just go for it and don’t wait for permission!
• Be a lifelong learner — that can be from the people around you, the people that inspire you, books and more. If you stop learning, you stop growing!

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

I made black eyed peas for the first time, and on my own, for New Years Day!
